Your personal Energy Trace dashboard

Energy Trace now lets you go beyond checking the carbon intensity in your area. Create a free account to save your location, add household appliances and get recommendations on when to use them based on the carbon intensity of the electricity grid.
- Create your account. Click Login and sign in with Google, or enter your email address to receive a one-time login code. No password is required.
- Set up your profile. Add your name, email address and postcode. Your postcode is used to show electricity data for your area.
- Check your dashboard. Your dashboard shows the current carbon intensity for your area alongside the UK average, renewable generation share, recent carbon intensity and the forecast for the next 24 hours. You can also see the current electricity generation mix.
- Add your appliances. Go to Appliances and select Add appliance. Add the appliances you would like Energy Trace to track, such as your washing machine or dishwasher, together with their basic details.
- See your recommendations. Open Recommendations to see when it would be better to run each appliance. Energy Trace compares carbon intensity across the next 24 hours and identifies lower- and higher-carbon time windows. You can also see the estimated CO₂ savings from shifting your electricity use.
- Connect a smart meter. The Smart Meter section is being prepared for live connections. For now, you can test the connection process using the Energy Trace smart-meter sandbox. The connection uses your MPAN, which you can normally find on your electricity bill, and requires your consent before meter data can be accessed.
The idea is simple: you do not necessarily need to use less electricity — sometimes using it at a different time can reduce its carbon impact.
